Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (guide 2026) 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)

About the domain :

Three Ravaille brothers, Jean-Marc, Pierre and Xavier, as comfortable in Pic Saint-Loup as the three fish on the labels would be in the water. They had to change the estate's historic name, l'Ermitage du Pic saint-loup, so as not to compete with the well-known Rhone appellation. For the reds, sainte-agnès blends the four main Languedoc grape varieties, while the whites are half Roussanne. The move towards biodynamic viticulture has been underway for several years. Sainte-agnès is regularly positioned as the archetype of Pic Saint-Loup reds.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 91/100

Domaine rated (guide 2026) 2*Stars (These great estates, often endowed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the wine:

The Sainte-Agnès 2023 white expresses itself in a fresh, chiselled, salivating register. You'll want more.

About the domain :

L'Héritage du Pic-Saint-Loup is a historic terroir, located on the lands of the former convent of Château de Montferrand. It was in the 12th century that the first winegrowers tilled and cultivated these pampre fields. Today, this jewel of the appellation, which backs directly onto the Pic, is farmed by the Ravaille family, who were instrumental in introducing Syrah, now the dominant grape variety in the appellation. In 1992, the latest generation, Xavier, Pierre and Jean-Marc, decided to leave the cooperative to vinify these beautiful high-altitude soils. Demanding vineyard standards, precise expression and controlled power are the hallmarks of the estate's current production, a benchmark in the appellation.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 90/100

About the wine:

Notes of candied lemon zest and orange, a touch of lemonade and a light gingerbread aroma emerge from the delicately savory Languedoc Cuvée Sainte Agnès Blanc 2023 (a blend of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Gris, and Clairette, vinified and aged in large oak barrels) before gently evolving into an orange wine profile, with subtle oxidative notes, a touch of bitterness and a delicately phenolic finish. Balanced and long on the palate, this is a well-structured wine to accompany meals, but with a slightly accelerated evolution. It may not appeal to everyone, but it will delight those who dare to serve it with roast chicken and cream sauce. Drink between 2025 and 2029.
