"Delicious!"

This Mediterranean wine, a blend of 85% Vermentino and 15% Viognier, is characterized by its delicate and expressive character. On the palate, it is smooth and round, with a lovely richness and mineral notes that lend it a nice, lingering finish. This lovely white wine pairs well with scallops or salmon tartare.

About the estate:

On the outskirts of Narbonne and on the shores of the Bages Lake, the Quartouze plateau is a historic region of the Languedoc, characterized by soils of rounded pebbles. The bishops of the Aude region once owned vineyards there. In 1983, Georges Ortola, an engineer, bought a neglected vineyard, then a second one five years later. Today, he and his children, Hélène and Nelson, cultivate 120 hectares using biodynamic methods. His vineyard serves as pasture for sheep in the winter.

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Published on May 25, 2022

While the attack is taut and sleek—thanks to the predominance of Vermentino—the mid-palate is round and full-bodied, yet linear, with white fruit flavors accented by a hint of citrus. The finish, though somewhat lacking in length, offers a certain freshness derived from lovely bitter notes nuanced with floral and minty undertones. Perhaps it would have been wiser to use white and/or gray Grenache rather than Viognier in the blend? Rating: 3.4. The combination of richness and minerality in this unpretentious white wine was a perfect match for a convivial Catalan sarsuela enjoyed with the family.
