About the estate:
On the outskirts of Narbonne and on the shores of the Bages Lake, the Quartouze plateau is a historic region of the Languedoc, characterized by soils of rounded pebbles. The bishops of the Aude region once owned vineyards there. In 1983, Georges Ortola, an engineer, bought a neglected vineyard, then a second one five years later. Today, he and his children, Hélène and Nelson, cultivate 120 hectares using biodynamic methods. His vineyard serves as pasture for sheep in the winter.

Dark ruby color with a purple core. On the nose, ripe red and dark fruit (yes, even strawberries), followed by garrigue, green herbs, forest earth, and wood. But also vanilla and toffee. Quite complex. On the palate, plenty of ripe red fruit—again, that strawberry—but also raspberries, red berries, and some unripe blackberries. High in acidity, but that makes it fresh and crisp. Good body, balance, and length. A wine full of character, substance, and typicity. Score: 16+/20

Moderate intensity compared to previous vintages, balanced freshness, and superb concentration perfectly define this full-bodied, sun-drenched cuvée, featuring a dynamic aromatic blend of ripe, juicy red fruits and white pepper. It delivers subtle, silky tannins on a structure so indulgent and luscious at the same time that one can’t help but embrace it wholeheartedly. The finish on the palate is lively. Remarkable value for money. A very southern wine reminiscent of Gigondas. Already open, with no harshness or oakiness, it has plenty of charm to be enjoyed after aeration with an Aubrac rib of beef seasoned with herbs and grilled over vine stumps. Rating = 4.3.
