Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2011 guide) 16,5/20 (Reference wine)
Rated estate (2025 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)
About the wine:
Long, powerful, and full of flavor, with a spicy note on the finish that gives it a surprising depth. The cedar finish is reminiscent of Pauillac—a Pauillac of fine pedigree.
About the estate:
A deep understanding of the terroir (43 hectares of clay-limestone soil) enables the production of well-rounded wines. The blend varies by vintage, combining Atlantic grape varieties (Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon) with Mediterranean ones (Syrah, Malbec, Grenache). The Chardonnays produce some of the appellation’s finest white wines. A new barrel cellar inaugurated in 2018 ensures the estate’s continued growth and ambition. Managed like a classified growth, it is a sure bet.

Guide Hachette des vins
Wine noted (guide 2011) 1*Star (Very successful wine)
Rated estate (2024 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the wine:
When you’re part of the Rothschild family, you can’t help but produce top-tier wines. Fortunately, the Baron’Arques estate, which belonged to the Abbey of Saint-Polycarpe in the 17th century, has everything it takes to live up to its reputation. Its clay-limestone terroir, its microclimate, its six premium grape varieties, and the winemakers’ dynamism all contribute to producing a remarkable wine whose bouquet blends complex aromas of red fruits with notes of violet and spices. Generous and powerful, the palate will reveal its full potential in four to five years, paired with a salt-crusted saddle of lamb or game in sauce.
About the estate:
Formerly owned by the Abbey of Saint-Polycarpe in the 17th century, this estate (now 43 hectares) was acquired in 1998 by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild (Château Mouton-Rothschild in Pauillac) and her two sons, who completely renovated both the vineyards and the winery, turning it into one of the appellation’s most reliable wines.
Guide des Vins Gault & Millau
Wine rated (2013 guide) 14/20 (Good)
About the wine:
The vegetal notes are more pronounced in this 2007 vintage than in others. Overall, it remains approachable and easy to drink. The tannins blend seamlessly with crisp fruitiness and hints of crushed blackcurrant.
