Bettane & Desseauve

“Great complexity and aromatic finesse, with notes of peony, rose, wild rose, lilac, red berries, and pine; a refined texture, with beautiful tannins, good length, and above all, remarkable freshness. A harmonious wine.” (The Bettane & Desseauve Wine Guide 2018)

Wine rated (2019 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2020 guide) 1*Star (A high-quality, recommendable wine that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the estate:

This lovely estate comprises 18 hectares of vines divided into small plots located in Bize, in the Minervois des Causses region, the terroir of the foothills of the Montagne Noire, and at the northeastern edge of the appellation. It is an estate that is truly on the rise. Winemaking techniques are moving towards gentler, less aggressive extractions, resulting in wines with greater fruit precision and a more balanced freshness. Consequently, they are enjoyable to drink, luscious and pleasing, while retaining the estate's signature tension and vibrancy. In addition to these Minervois wines, they also produce a range of particularly well-made IGP wines from the Aude region, with names naturally linked to that of the estate.

Rated estate (2021 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

Founded in 2002 by four partners, all passionate about wine and originally from Saumur, Le Loup Blanc estate produces Minervois wines blended from Languedoc grape varieties. From the outset, their vineyard work has focused on organic and biodynamic farming. The expression of each cuvée remains precise: here you'll find wines perfect for enjoying young, fruity wines, as well as excellent wines for aging. The property also features two comfortable and tastefully decorated guesthouses.
