“Made from vines averaging 45 years old on the slopes of Le Coteau and aged in oak barrels for 20 months, the 2018 Bourgueil Les Quartiers opens with a deep, intense, and toasty bouquet of black berries and ripe blackcurrants intertwined with spicy notes, cigar box, and graphite. Silky, refined, and fresh on the palate , this is an elegant Cabernet Franc—tight yet lively—with a silky texture, crystalline tannins, and a long finish. The flavors are still influenced by the oak, but the structure, finesse, and intensity, along with the very delicate hint of raspberry on the finish, indicate excellent aging potential. Wine rated 16/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2026 guide): 3*Stars (High-quality production that serves as a benchmark in its sector)

About the wine:

The tannins are charming, and the finish is fresh and floral—well-structured and flavorful, with that limestone character that sets it apart.

About the estate:

Yannick and Benoît Amirault are perfectionist winemakers who made a natural transition to organic farming. They cultivate 19 hectares of Cabernet Franc, two-thirds of which are in Bourgueil and the rest in Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, with a rich heritage of old vines in each area.

About the estate:

With vineyards in Saint-Nicolas and Bourgueil, Yannick Amirault is one of the most reliable names in these two appellations. His son Benoît now cultivates the estate’s 19 hectares using organic methods.

The flavors are still influenced by the oak, but the structure, finesse, and intensity, along with the very delicate hint of raspberry on the finish, indicate excellent aging potential. Personally, I prefer wines that have been partially aged in stoneware (amphorae) and for a shorter period, whereas Les Quartiers represents the old Amirault style, prior to 2014.

Rated Estate (2026 Guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the estate:

Benoît arrived at the family estate in Bourgueil in 2003 to continue the family venture started by his father, Yannick, in 1997. Two-thirds of the vineyard is located in Bourgueil, with the remainder in the neighboring appellation of Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil. You can sense the winemakers’ perfectionism and their commitment to expressing the terroirs through Cabernet Francs that are silky smooth and refined, yet retain vibrant fruit. The estate has been certified organic since 2009, and the wines gain in purity each year thanks to increasingly precise winemaking techniques (truncated-cone wooden vats, barrels, and stoneware jars). The 2022 and 2023 vintages delight us with their frank, clean expression and finesse.

Medium-deep to deep ruby color with a purple core. A very vibrant color. On the nose, red and dark forest fruits, forest floor, underbrush, earthy notes, and a hint of astringency—a trait often found in CF. On the palate, juicy cherry and forest fruit flavors, with immediate structure provided by fine acidity and fine-grained tannins. Robust tannin structure. Good aging potential. Will certainly last another 10 years. Substantial body and lovely balance overall. A Bourgueil full of character. Will be beautifully matured by 2025/26. CF needs time. Score: 16+/20
