“A bit reserved and more angular at this stage, Côte 50 is characterized by a sharp structure that will need to mellow at the table starting next year. A beautiful Cabernet Franc that truly embodies its Bourgueil appellation. ” (The Guide to the Best Wines of France 2022 – RVF). Cote 50, the latest release from La Coudraye, stands out for its consistency, vintage after vintage. A Bourgueil that is always very expressive, with delicate, slightly spicy notes of pomegranate and cranberry. A fresh and fruity wine, both crisp and rich.”

Wine rated (2022 guide) 90/100

Rated Estate (2026 Guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the wine:

A bit reserved and more structured at this stage, Côte 50 is characterized by an angular profile that will need to mellow at the table starting next year. A beautiful Cabernet Franc that truly embodies its Bourgueil appellation.

About the estate:

Benoît arrived at the family estate in Bourgueil in 2003 to continue the family venture started by his father, Yannick, in 1997. Two-thirds of the vineyard is located in Bourgueil, with the remainder in the neighboring appellation of Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil. You can sense the winemakers’ perfectionism and their commitment to expressing the terroirs through Cabernet Francs that are silky smooth and refined, yet retain vibrant fruit. The estate has been certified organic since 2009, and the wines gain in purity each year thanks to increasingly precise winemaking techniques (truncated-cone wooden vats, barrels, and stoneware jars). The 2022 and 2023 vintages delight us with their frank, clean expression and finesse.

As always, this Bourgueil is a sure bet. Once again, I shared a few bottles with friends, and the feedback was nothing but positive. I highly recommend this winery—it never disappoints—and at this price, you won’t want to miss out.

The 2019 was a cut above; I think it needs to age a bit—it’s not quite ready yet, still a bit closed off. I’ve tasted it again since then, and it’s much better—it’s really opened up and has great flavor.

It seemed necessary to let this 100% Cabernet Franc age a bit to allow the aging process to take its course and soften the tannins. As pure as ever, it surprises right from the first sip with its straightforward structure and concentrated flavors of tart fruit and graphite notes. Dense body, but lacking depth. A medium, light finish, enhanced by lively acidity. Rating: 3.7. Very easy to drink, it paired well at 16° after an hour of aeration with roast free-range chicken and homemade fries.
