Rated estate (2025 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About wine:

Sinople, a generous 2022, well balanced by subtle bitterness and an energetic finish. A dry white wine with great potential for the table.

About the estate:

The property has been in the Bonnaventure family since the Middle Ages, when the vineyards of the historic Turpenay estate were planted. In 1988, Étienne and Pascale de Bonnaventure undertook the expansion of the estate. They revived the spirit of the great wines of Beaumont, the first step in the Chinon appellation, on the Loire side, where Cabernets, under more oceanic influence, gain in delicacy and fruit finesse compared to those in the east of the appellation. Château de Coulaine now produces a brilliant range of organic Chinons, combining fresh fruit and elegant texture. The vintages do not obscure the expression of the terroirs: the suppleness (clay and silica of Beaumont) in Château de Coulaine and the fresh firmness of the clay-limestone soils in Les Picasses, Clos de Turpenay (south-facing) and La Diablesse (in its old vine version, north-facing). Since January 2017, Jean de Bonnaventure, the son of Étienne and Pascale, has been at the helm of the estate and is continuing the family's history with rigor, tact, and sensitivity.

Review and opinion by Mr. MATHIEU W. Published on 04/27/2024

Light straw yellow color. Nose: spontaneous fermentation aromas, typical of organic wines, truffle gas, floral and fermented impressions, and some wood aromas. Palate: a plump attack (sweet) followed by a considerable bitterness and tingling zest. This immediately creates tension and a distinctive character. In addition, there is some chalkiness, and the terroir (tuff stone) is clearly noticeable. Good body and medium length. A distinctive wine full of character that pairs well with Asian food that is not too hot. Score: 16/20
