"An impressive volume for this superb Chinon"

“This vintage is a perfect match for Picasses, which combines graceful density, freshness, and chalky notes...” (Le Guide RVF 2026). A very sunny and concentrated red, made from a selection of the estate’s best plots, characterized by its very chalky and clay-rich, south-facing terroir; it has excellent aging potential and should be cellared.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 93/100

Rated estate (2026 guide): 3*Stars (High-quality production that serves as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

The new generation at the helm of Bonnaventure—Jean and Tatiana—is taking this historic estate to new heights in the finest possible way. The age of the vines and the shift toward organic farming are contributing to the growing success of this estate, which offers excellent value for the money. A highly recommended selection from a reputable producer.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine noted (guide 2025) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

About the wine:

The vigor of this vintage tends to give it a somewhat austere character. This vigor—the nose effortlessly detects an athletic oakiness—is also due to a strong fruit presence dominated by blackberry jam. All of these impressions suggest that the Cabernet Franc fermented for a long time in tanks before being aged for 9 months in barrels. The result is a well-executed extraction that yields a wine with good body, firm yet not harsh, enlivened by lovely bitter notes on the finish.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 95/100 Favorite

Rated Estate (2026 Guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the wine:

This vintage is a perfect match for Picasses, which combines graceful density, freshness, and a chalky character.

About the estate:

The estate has been in the Bonnaventure family since the Middle Ages, when the vineyards of the historic Clos de Turpenay were first planted. In 1988, Étienne and Pascale de Bonnaventure undertook the expansion of the estate. They revived the spirit of the great wines of Beaumont, the first tier of the Chinon appellation on the Loire River’s west bank, where Cabernets—under a more oceanic influence—gain a delicate, intricate character and refined fruitiness compared to those from the eastern part of the appellation. Today, Château de Coulaine produces a brilliant range of organic Chinons that combine fresh fruit with an elegant texture. The vintages do not obscure the expression of the terroirs: the suppleness (Beaumont’s clay and silica) in Château de Coulaine and the slender freshness of the clay-limestone soils in Les Picasses, the sun-kissed density in Clos de Turpenay (south-facing), and the chalky character of La Diablesse (in its old-vines version, north-facing). Jean de Bonnaventure, the son of Étienne and Pascale, who took over in January 2017, has brought new energy to defining these meticulously crafted and precise wines while preserving their unique character and sensibility. The faithful expression of the latest vintages deserves a second star.
