“In this red wine, we find the floral notes and fine texture characteristic of the Picasses.” (Le Guide RVF 2025) A very sunny and concentrated red wine, made from a selection of the estate’s finest plots, characterized by its very limestone- and clay-rich, south-facing terroir; it has excellent aging potential and is best kept in the cellar.

Guide Hachette des vins
Wine noted (guide 2025) 1*Star (Very successful wine)
About the wine:
The vigor of this vintage tends to give it a somewhat austere character. This vigor—the nose effortlessly detects an athletic oakiness—is also due to a strong fruity presence dominated by blackberry jam. All of these characteristics suggest that the Cabernet Franc fermented for a long time in vats before being aged for nine months in barrels. Ultimately, a well-executed extraction yields a wine with good body, firm yet not harsh, energized by lovely bitter notes on the finish.

Rated wine (2025 guide) 94/100 Favorite
Rated estate (2025 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)
About the wine:
In the red wines, we find the floral notes and fine texture of the Picasses.
About the estate:
The estate has been in the Bonnaventure family since the Middle Ages, when the vines of the historic vineyard at Château de Turpenay were first planted. In 1988, Étienne and Pascale de Bonnaventure undertook the expansion of the estate. They revived the spirit of the great wines of Beaumont, the first tier of the Chinon appellation on the Loire side, where the Cabernets, under a more oceanic influence, gain delicacy and fruit finesse compared to those from the eastern part of the appellation. Château de Coulaine now produces a brilliant range of organic Chinons, combining fresh fruit with elegant texture. The vintages do not obscure the expression of the terroirs: the suppleness (Beaumont clay and silica) in Château de Coulaine and the fresh firmness of the clay-limestone soils in Les Picasses, Clos de Turpenay (south-facing), and La Diablesse (in its old-vine version, north-facing). Since January 2017, Jean de Bonnaventure, the son of Étienne and Pascale, has been at the helm of the estate and continues the family’s legacy with rigor, tact, and sensitivity.
