Pierre Sourdais - Chinon Réserve Stanislas 2022

"The estate's reserve cuvée—full of potential and superbly balanced!"

“A Chinon grown on calcareous clay and flint soils, powerful as it should be, whose deep color heralds a rich, ripe, concentrated nose of black fruits enhanced by spices resulting from a long aging in barrels and casks (18 months). Very opulent and velvety on the palate, the wine generously fills the mouth and unfolds its full-bodied flavors in a harmonious whole that lacks neither structure nor length.” (Le Guide Hachette 2026).

Winery rated 1*Star (A high-quality, recommendable production that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the estate:

Established since 1981 on part of the family estate in Cravant-les-Coteaux, Pierre Sourdais cultivates his 27 hectares of vineyards using organic farming methods, with some plots on the plains and others on the hillsides. The “Réserve Stanislas” and “Les Boulaies” vintages are the ones to seek out first; they produce the wines with the richest tannic structure and the greatest aging potential.

Rated estate (2026 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the wine:

A Chinon grown on calcareous clay and flint soils, powerful as it should be, whose deep color heralds a rich, ripe, concentrated nose of black fruits enhanced by spices resulting from a long aging in barrels and casks (18 months). Very opulent and velvety on the palate, the wine generously fills the mouth and unfolds its full-bodied flavors in a harmonious whole that lacks neither structure nor length.

About the estate:

It was at the Moulin-à-Tan that oak bark was once ground for use in tanning hides at the region’s many tanneries. Today, the old mill has given way to a 27-hectare organic vineyard run by Pierre Sourdais, who is gradually passing the business on to his daughter Caroline and his son-in-law Sylvain. A sure bet in the Chinon region.
