"A fine example of the appellation—a sure bet!"

This vintage develops complex aromas of very ripe red fruits, even reminiscent of jam. It is perfectly balanced, with pleasantly pronounced acidity. The tannins are well-integrated, lending the wine body and a long finish.

Bettane & Desseauve

Winery rated 1*Star (A high-quality, recommendable production that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the estate:

With a long family history, the Bruneau-Dupuy estate is now run by Sylvain. Since 2012, the vineyard has been in the process of converting to organic farming. The estate covers an area of 20 hectares, bordered to the north by a forest. Half of the estate is located on south-facing slopes, covered with old vines planted in clay-limestone soils. The wines produced from these vines are full-bodied and have a long finish. The other half of the vineyard is planted in sandy soil, which yields lighter, fruitier wines best enjoyed young. Priced at less than 15 euros, these wines offer good value for the money.

Wine noted (guide 2025) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

Rated estate (2026 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the wine:

Sixty-year-old vines and a year of barrel aging have shaped this serious 2022 vintage, which is dominated by its aging profile but can rely on its firm tannins and sun-kissed fruit to age well.

About the estate:

Representing the third generation of winemakers at this estate, which consistently produces high-quality wines, Sylvain Bruneau—who took over in 1998—has converted his vineyard, which spans about 20 hectares, to organic farming.

Ligers Competition - Wines of the Loire Valley

Concours des Ligers - Vins du Val de Loire

Award-winning wine (2025 guide) Silver Medal - Loire Valley Wines

About the wine:

The brilliant, deep ruby-red color gives way to an expressive and pleasant nose that combines aromas of red and black fruit jams (strawberry, raspberry, blackcurrant) with vanilla and spicy notes (pepper). On the palate, the wine has a supple attack, offering a full-bodied texture, smoothness, and volume, along with fruity (jam-like), spicy, and oaky aromas that envelop the present yet well-integrated tannins, which then linger in an elegant, powerful, and long finish. “Great potential.” A superb Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil.

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Published on March 2, 2026

With a fruity style and good body, S. Bruneau presents a superb blend of finesse and richness, infused with tangy and stewed berries, supported by a mineral backbone that lends a lovely freshness. The tight, well-integrated tannins, with a silky texture, prolong the deep and smooth finish. Priced reasonably, this elegant and generous bottle is best enjoyed at the table with an oven-roasted Salers tenderloin and a gratin dauphinois. Rated 4.3 for this “Coup de Coeur.”
