About the estate:

In 2010, Matthieu Delaporte’s arrival marked a turning point for this historic Chavignol estate, leading to a focus on soil management, the elimination of herbicides, lower yields, and barrel aging. From the outset, the winemaker displayed great ambition and took on the challenge of restructuring a 33-hectare vineyard. This was a major undertaking aimed at producing more refined wines, which have been certified organic since 2023. The lineup combines blended wines (Chavignol and Silex) and single-vineyard wines (the legendary south-facing slope of Monts Damnés, as well as Le Cul de Beaujeu, famous elsewhere for its whites but planted here with Pinot Noir). The whites are meticulous, refined, and well-balanced; the reds are equally well-crafted.

About the wine:

The Silex 2023 is a round, supple Sancerre with an exceptionally sumptuous style. It is open and approachable, yet remains pure, crystal-clear, and free of added sulfites. It offers a beautiful roundness with pleasant mineral acidity and aromas of lemon, honeyed tea, and chamomile. Sourced from a large plot rich in flint, it is one of Delaporte’s most full-bodied single-vineyard cuvées and is typically harvested first.
