Niepoort - Vinho Verde Docil 2024
92+/100
Robert Parker
"This 100% Loureiro Vinho Verde from Niepoort is all about freshness, elegance, and floral notes!"
“The very young Dócil 2024, just bottled and still developing, is closer to the original concept, which was to produce a sort of Kabinett trocken from Loureiro grapes with moderate ripeness and high acidity, balanced by a touch of residual sugar, [...] They used gentle pressing, without maceration, to achieve elegance and a bit of body. It exhibits excellent balance. The origin of the grapes changed starting with this vintage, which comes from a more Atlantic-facing region, and the year was also cooler than 2022.” (The Wine Advocate 2025)

About the wine:
The very young Dócil 2024, freshly bottled and still developing, is closer to the original concept, which was to produce a sort of Kabinett trocken from Loureiro grapes with moderate ripeness and high acidity, balanced by a touch of residual sugar—only about three grams. They conducted trials ranging from completely dry to 18 grams, and this was the one they preferred in terms of balance. They used gentle pressing, without maceration, to achieve elegance and a bit of body. It exhibits excellent balance. The origin of the grapes changed starting with this vintage, which comes from a more Atlantic-facing region, and the year was also cooler than 2022. 2026–2032

I was already familiar with this winery, having tasted their port wines back in March. This bottle is well worth trying, with its perfectly balanced acidity and a rather floral bouquet. It’s very well made.
