Château Sainte-Roseline
Château Sainte-Roseline, nestled in the heart of the small village of Arcs-sous-Argens, is both a listed site and a Cru Classé de Provence since 1955. Its famous vineyard, created by Jean XXII over 700 years ago, is an exceptional place where the reputation of the terroir and the wines produced there is well established. In 1994, Bernard Teillaud took over this prestigious property and undertook extensive work to adapt it to modern viticulture, with the ambition of making Château Sainte-Roseline one of the jewels of southern viticulture. He entrusted its management to a young oenologist, Christophe Bernard, the son of winegrowers.
The vines of Château Sainte-Roseline are planted on clay-limestone soil and benefit from an abundant underground water source and a Mediterranean climate with maritime influences contrasted by the Massif des Maures. The Château Sainte-Roseline estate has increased its planting density, rigorously selected grape varieties, and taken particular care of the foliage by trellising all the plots. These are weeded mechanically and numerous manual interventions punctuate the different stages of the vine's growth. After debudding, green harvesting is used to control yields (average of 38 hl/ha). Leaf removal then promotes sunlight exposure and therefore optimal ripeness of the berries. After harvesting, the crop is sorted, destemmed, and then undergoes a second sorting under the supervision of the winery staff. The Château Sainte-Roseline vineyard is therefore managed according to the best cultivation methods, and all these requirements have been implemented and applied to promote, above all, the concentration of the berries.
