Château Sainte-Roseline
Château Sainte-Roseline, nestled in the heart of the small village of Arcs-sous-Argens, has been both a listed historic site and a Cru Classé of Provence since 1955. Its famous vineyard, established by John XXII over 700 years ago, is an exceptional place where the reputation of the terroir and the wines produced there is well-established. In 1994, Bernard Teillaud took over this prestigious estate and undertook extensive renovations to adapt it to modern viticulture, with the ambition of making Château Sainte-Roseline one of the jewels of southern French winemaking. He entrusted its management to a young oenologist, the son of winegrowers, Christophe Bernard.
The vineyards of Château Sainte-Roseline are planted on clay-limestone soil and benefit from an abundant underground spring and the Mediterranean climate, with its maritime influences contrasted by the Maures Mountains. The Château Sainte-Roseline estate has increased its planting density, rigorously selected grape varieties, and taken particular care with the foliage by trellising all the plots. These are mechanically weeded, and numerous manual interventions mark the various stages of the vine’s growth. Thus, after debudding, green harvesting helps control yields (average of 38 hl/ha). Leaf removal then promotes sun exposure and thus optimal ripeness of the berries. After harvest, the grapes are sorted, destemmed, and then undergo a second sorting under the supervision of the winery staff. The Château Sainte-Roseline vineyard is thus managed according to the best viticultural practices, and all these requirements have been implemented and applied to prioritize, above all, the concentration of the berries.
