“The culmination of a long-standing project by Xavier Vignon”

"The Vin de France Arcane Le Fou is another unique wine from this incredible winemaker. This cuvée highlights various Grenache clones as well as nearly all permitted grape varieties (although it is 85% Grenache). It offers a powerful, sweet nose of blueberry, black cherry, lavender, and peppery incense, along with a full-bodied, structured palate that is powerful yet harmonious. Smooth, with silky tannins and a long finish, this is a singular wine (it is primarily sourced from vineyards in Châteauneuf-du-Pape). " (Jeb Dunnuck)

A beautiful elixir in an elegant bottle, offering a warm and generous profile. The full-bodied and opulent palate unfolds a rich array of stewed black fruits and spices, combined with notes of cocoa and smoky aromas. The dense, velvety, almost creamy texture is supported by silky, perfectly integrated tannins and a very pleasant, lively acidity. A long, savory, and fresh finish. This signature cuvée, quintessentially Southern, highlighted the sweet-salty-spicy succulence of a Gers duck à l’orange, served with glazed baby yellow turnips and young carrots. Score = 4.3.

Review by Mr. STEPHANE B. Posted on 11/16/2024

This wine is like the Hulk: 15 minutes after opening, it’s smooth and rich, with no hint of alcohol despite its 15% ABV—dark fruit, spicy, and slightly smoky. You could drink it as an aperitif, but when paired with a spicy couscous, it literally transforms—it becomes powerful, broad-shouldered, dominating the dish. The alcohol asserts itself to stand up to the spices and finishes with notes of white pepper. Then, when you taste it again after the meal, it becomes soft, creamy, and tender once more. An astonishing wine for a simple Côtes du Rhône, and when it’s at its peak, it can rival a Grenache-style Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
