Xavier Vignon - Beaumes-de-Venise Arcane L'Étoile
95/100
Jeb Dunnuck
"A shooting star up for grabs
"Sourced from higher altitude sites, Arcane l'Étoile is another elegant cuvée from Xavier, turned towards finesse that's both rich and fresh. A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre plus a small amount of Viognier from 2015, 2016 and 2017. There's something profound about its texture and balance. Notes of black raspberries, currants, dried flowers, lavender and pepper make up this beautiful, full-bodied, elegant wine that could well become one of Beaumes de Venise's greatest red wines to come." From higher altitude sites, Beaumes de Venise Arcane l'Étoile is another of Xavier's elegant cuvées, oriented towards rich, fresh finesse. A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre as well as a small amount of Viognier, it has great depth of texture and balance. Balanced in terms of freshness, consistency and concentration, so much so that you don't feel its 15° titre. The tannic structure is rich in macerated black fruits, with a smoky accent. The texture is flattering, with its patinated character. A hint of bitterness drowns in the silkiness of the finish. Delightful with roast wild boar, Byrrh/clementine/black chocolate sauce and creamy polenta. Score = 4.

Once again Xavier Vignon has produced a wine of great quality, verging on perfection for a Beaume de Venise, with a dense texture and perfect length on the palate.
