“On the nose, it’s hard to tell that this is a schist wine since we lack perspective, but it’s certainly not a granite Viognier! Mineral, with flinty notes; on the palate, the initial impression is particularly salty—this is a delicious white for a young vineyard. And a Seyssuel terroir to watch for white wine production! With an almost tannic character on the finish.” (The Bettane & Desseauve Wine Guide)

Wine rated (2023 guide) 91/100

Rated estate (2023 guide): 4*Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the wine:

On the nose, it’s hard to tell that this is a schist wine since we lack perspective, but one thing is certain: this is no granite Viognier! Mineral, with a flinty character; on the palate, the initial impression is particularly salty— this is a delicious white wine for such a young vineyard. And a terroir in Seyssuel to watch for white wine production! With an almost tannic finish.

About the estate:

What a meteoric rise for this up-and-coming winemaker, who has been in business since only 2009. The constant care he devotes to his various vineyards and his meticulous work in the cellar have enabled him to produce Saint-Joseph, Condrieu, and Côte-Rôtie wines that rank among the very best in their respective appellations. In 2020, the Côte-Rôtie Fongeant borders on perfection. The real challenge for wine lovers will be to get their hands on a few bottles.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 91/100

Rated Estate (2024 Guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the wine:

The white wines are very refined and, above all, delightfully fresh, much like Esprit d'Antan.

About the estate:

Founded in 2008, this winery has been making a name for itself year after year. It has gradually expanded without losing sight of its philosophy: to produce wines with a distinct identity. For reds, the proportion of whole-cluster fermentation varies depending on the cuvée. High-quality aging processes enhance and refine the wines without making them overly smooth. The whites retain their finesse. The quality and consistency of the entire production are remarkable.
