Collines Rhodaniennes
The Collines Rhodaniennes Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) was introduced in 2011 to replace the Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes label, itself dating back to 1981. This appellation applies to red, white and rosé wines, whether still or sparkling. The area covered by theCollines Rhodaniennes PGI appellation includes many cantons in the departments of Ardèche, Drôme, Isère, Loire and Rhône.
The soils of theCollines Rhodaniennes PGI are mainly granitic. Their high heat-accumulating capacity contributes to good grape ripening. The climate is semi-continental, with alternating Mediterranean, continental and oceanic influences.
Single-varietal planting is one of the special features of the Collines Rhodaniennes vineyards. Red wines are mainly made from Syrah, Gamay and Merlon. Collines Rhodaniennes red wines are dense and deep, with pronounced mineral notes and red fruit aromas. Rosés are fresh, fruity and well-balanced. Collines Rhodaniennes white wines are made mainly from roussanne, marsanne and viognier grapes. The white wines are pleasantly lively, and stand out for their finesse.
The diversity of vintages offered by theCollines Rhodaniennes PGI is perfectly represented by wines from Yves Cuilleron or Michel et Stéphane Ogier.
