“A gem in a bottle!”

"The 2017 Edre is rich and velvety, offering notes of crushed stone and pencil shavings layered with ripe black fruit. A blend of 60% Syrah, 25% Grenache, 10% Carignan, and 5% Mourvèdre, all aged for 18 months in second-use Bordeaux barrels, it is full-bodied and sumptuous, with a creamy texture, beautiful fruit presence, and a long, elegant finish.” (Wine Advocate 2019)

Wine rated 17/20 (Top-rated wine)

Winery rated 1 star (A high-quality, recommended wine that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the wine:

Very well-balanced, the oak blends seamlessly into the wine, and its structure supports a mature and authentic aromatic profile. Still very young, with a vertical, fresh structure, it will age gracefully in the years to come.

About the estate:

Founded in Vingrau in 2002 by Jacques Castany and Pascal Dieumidou, this winery received valuable guidance from the start from their neighbor Hervé Bizeul’s (Clos des Fées) oenologist. In 2004, its reputation took off thanks to Decanter magazine. However, even today, the two remain part-time winemakers, despite their 10 hectares under production. The winery, housed in an old garage, remains simple yet efficient. All of the wines are very well made, establishing the estate as a sure bet in the Roussillon region.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine noted (guide 2020) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the wine:

Deep garnet in color, this Tautavel is marked by spices (pepper), vanilla, and toasted bread. It is well-balanced and full-bodied on the palate, with notes of leather and licorice, but it’s clear that the wine is still developing. Be patient and let it age.

About the estate:

Jacques Castany worked in the transportation industry, and Pascal Dieunidou in IT. In 2002, they launched their winemaking venture in a tiny cellar. It has been a success, as evidenced by their already impressive track record. The 10-hectare vineyard is located in Vingrau, facing a spectacular cirque dominated by limestone.

I’m not Parker, just a wine enthusiast. For this 2017 Domaine de l’Edre, a score of 93/100 is by no means an exaggeration.
