age-worthy wine

"A fine wine with aging potential that is starting to open up!"

“The 2015 Soula is truly a distinguished wine that time has helped to reveal, with its complex, camphor-tinged, spicy, and meaty nose, and its precise, peppery palate, reminiscent of the Rhône, with a touch of elegance.” (Le Guide RVF 2025).

Wine rated (2024 guide) 3*Top Pick (Exceptional wine)

About the wine:

This 2015, still full of youthful vigor and aged in barrels for 22 months, won over the jury. Its strengths: a beautiful garnet color with ruby highlights, showing little sign of aging for its age; a bouquet characterized by freshness, spices, thyme, and an intense mineral note of pebbles; a very elegant palate, long, round, and supple, centered on black fruits and garrigue herbs, with fine, crisp tannins resulting from whole-cluster vinification, and a return of minerality on the finish. Majestic, and built to last.

Rated estate (2023 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

The 2015 Soula is truly a distinguished wine that time has helped to reveal, with its complex, camphor-tinged, spicy, and meaty nose, and its precise, peppery palate, reminiscent of the Rhône, with a touch of great elegance.

About the estate:

On the beautiful high-altitude granite terraces of the Fenouillèdes region, northwest of Maury, Gérard Gauby and a few partners acquired this organically certified estate. In 2016, Wendy Wilson replaced Gerald Stanley, who had been running the estate since 2008. The red and white wines are vinified in barrels according to very natural principles: indigenous yeasts, no acidification, no chaptalization. Never lacking in freshness or elegance, the reds have recently gained in structure and body. But from its very first vintage, in 2001, Le Soula has distinguished itself primarily through its whites, which have impressed us with their purity and intensity: the blend of Macabeu, Sauvignon Blanc, and several other grape varieties works wonders here. The wines often deserve to be aged to fully appreciate their best expression.

Excellent, will reach full maturity in 2024, very well-balanced... Not cheap, nor exceptional, however. A safe bet, but not unforgettable.
