“This wine is truly exceptional. Favorite Jancis Robinson)”
"A magnificent wine that seemed to grow more beautiful by the day over the course of a week. Remarkable concentration. The oak is clearly defined at the moment, but it is ever-present, and judging by the abundance of fruit, it won’t be long before it simply becomes a rounded structure and a depth of spice. Orange, clementine, lots of apricot. Peach and apricot pit. The fruit has vertical depth and substance, spreading across the entire palate. The balance is superb.” (Jancis Robinson 2024)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2021 guide) 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable vintage, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
Philippe Modat made up for the thankless nature of his job as a clerk at the Commercial Court by breathing new life into his wild gneiss-based vineyards in Caramany, with the help of his tireless estate manager, Laurent Abet. Today, his sons Quentin and Louis have taken over, with many projects in mind. Impeccable viticulture, respectful winemaking, and the development of a diverse portfolio—everything is falling into place to help the estate grow and evolve. Promising wines, a cellar brimming with ideas, and a welcome breath of fresh air sweeping through an appellation that sorely needs it.

Rated estate (2021 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the estate:
A native of Catalonia, Philippe Modat, a judge, is a knowledgeable wine enthusiast—just like his father, who also became a winemaker. This passion led to the establishment in 2006 of a vineyard in the Agly Valley: 27 hectares of vines on a plateau at an altitude of 300 meters, in the process of converting to organic farming since 2011 (8 hectares under biodynamic cultivation), and an eco-friendly winery equipped with solar panels, which opened in 2008.

Rated winery (2022 guide) Recommended
About the wine:
The nose offers fragrant notes of baked lemon, apple, thyme, bay leaf, and chalk. It is medium-bodied and subtle. Silky and balanced, with a hint of minerality and a pleasant bitterness reminiscent of almonds. The finish unfolds with precision. Roussanne, Grenache, Carignan Blanc, Macabeu, and Viognier. Made from organically grown grapes. Ready to drink or for aging.
