About the wine:
The 2022 Les Salines dry Maury, a single-vineyard blend of Grenache and Carignan, is a superb age-worthy wine: powerful, with dense tannins, yet easy to drink, featuring a lovely underlying vibrancy and perfectly balanced fruit.
About the estate:
Domaine des Soulanes was founded in 2002 by Cathy and Daniel Laffite in the Maury region. The couple had previously worked these same vineyards for over ten years alongside the former owner before acquiring part of the estate. The vineyards are located at the foot of the rocky peaks dominated by the Château de Queribus. The estate’s wines are full-bodied yet balanced, energetic, and intense.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Published on November 20, 2024
A wine of character, the Les Salines cuvée has impressed with its marked improvement in quality over recent vintages. The soft, fresh attack gives way to a sunny, full palate where the power, energy, and crisp fruitiness of black cherry and blackberry express themselves unreservedly, interwoven with spicy notes and an underlying earthy touch. The firm yet silky texture of the tannins provides a pleasant sensation of richness and smoothness. The mineral terroir is reflected in the subtle saline tension of the finish. A fine wine for aging, yet enjoyable now, for example with a Catalan-style roast suckling lamb saddle (rancio sauce with cognac) and white rice. Score: 4.1.
