About the estate:
Before going into business for himself in 2002, Daniel Laffite worked for 15 years at a large estate that had been farmed organically since 1972. He bought a portion of the estate and renovated his winery. Today, he farms 17 hectares with his wife, Cathy.

About the estate:
The Domaine des Soulanes was founded in 2002 by Cathy and Daniel Laffite in the Maury region. The couple had previously worked these same vineyards for more than ten years alongside the former owner before acquiring part of the estate. The vineyards are located at the foot of the rocky peaks dominated by the Château de Queribus. The estate’s wines are full-bodied yet balanced, energetic, and intense.

A wine with character, the Les Salines cuvée has impressed with its steady improvement in quality over recent vintages. The soft, fresh attack gives way to a sunny, full-bodied palate where the power, energy, and crisp fruitiness of black cherry and blackberry express themselves unreservedly, interwoven with notes of spice and an underlying earthy touch. The firm yet silky texture of the tannins imparts a pleasant sensation of body and smoothness. The mineral terroir is reflected in the subtle saline tension of the finish. A fine wine for aging, though it can be enjoyed now, for example, with oven-roasted Catalan-style milk-fed lamb saddle (rancio sauce with cognac) and white rice. Rating: 4.1.
