"A wine for ageing with precision, the emblematic cuvée of the estate".

"The Cèdre 2020 is virile and powerful, with spicy, complex flesh; the touch signals a Malbec of great precision, ideally ripe and aged in sulfite-free foudre until bottling." (Le Guide RVF 2024)

4-star rated estates (top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)

About the domain :

Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaegue lead this estate to the pinnacle of Cahors, thanks to demanding viticulture and precise vinification. The 27 hectares (including 25 hectares of reds) are divided into three blocks on two of the appellation's best soil types, notably the famous third terrace. One is clay-limestone, producing wines of great finesse. The other is a soil of pebbles mixed with reddish sand, ideal for more powerful wines.

Guide Hachette des vins

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine noted (guide 2024) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

About the wine:

Still under the influence of ageing (2 years in casks), this cuvée offers a toasty, spicy nose, then reveals a solidly structured, full-bodied palate. Definitely cellar-worthy.

Robert Parker - Wine Advocate

Wine rated ( 2024 guide) 92/100 (Great wine)

About the wine:

Austere in character, Cedar 2020 reveals a deep, dark bouquet of licorice, oak, dark berries and cedar. Full-bodied, sappy and dense, it has a fleshy core of fruit, structured tannins and a long but firm finish. The vintage is clearly present in this wine, which will benefit from a little time to soften and fully integrate its powerful elements.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 94/100

Domaine rated (guide 2025) 2*Stars (These great estates, often endowed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the wine:

The Cèdre 2020 is virile and powerful, with a complex, spicy texture. The touch is a sign of precision Malbec, ideally ripe and aged in sulfite-free foudre until bottling.

About the domain :

For over fifteen years, the Verhaeghe brothers, Pascal in winemaking and Jean-Marc in the vineyard, and now Pascal's son Jules, have been making Le Cèdre the benchmark of the appellation. It has to be said that they benefit from an exceptional terroir: on the one hand, a cone of particularly stony limestone scree in constant movement, the famous "tran", which produces fine, elegant wines; on the other, a soil of pebbles on ferruginous sands, conferring greater power on the wines. Produced from selected, ideally ripe harvests, the cuvées, always highly colored, achieve a rare level of quality and consistency thanks to their refined tannins and velvety texture. Extra-Libre cuvées feature the entire range of sulfur-free wines.

Domaine noté (guide 2025) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Wine Enthusiast)

About the wine:

From one of Cahors' greatest estates, this wine expresses an abundance of black fruits and prunes. It's a fine, balanced wine, with structured tannins and intense potential. The wine will be ready from 2026. Organic.

James Suckling

James Suckling

Wine rated (2024 guide) 93/100

About the wine:

Lovely nose of black cherry, boysenberry and aromatic herbs with a hint of black earth and white pepper. The palate is fairly tight, with medium to full body and fine tannins. Lively and taut on the midpalate, with crisp blueberries and a savory finish. Made from organically grown grapes. Already affordable today, but can be kept.
