"The jewel in the crown!"

"Vines between 50 and 60 years old for this cuvée vinified in new 500L open barrels with floral aromas on a deep, sensual, and dense palate and a mouthfeel that reveals both limestone and clay on a dynamic that is enhanced by the absence of sulfur before bottling. (Le Guide RVF 2024). A very fine Cahors for aging, ideal with a delicious game terrine... • Delivery in wooden cases is available for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on the country and shipping method selected).

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

4-star rated estate (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)

About the estate:

Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaegue run this estate at the top of Cahors, thanks to demanding viticulture and precise winemaking techniques. The 27 hectares (including 25 of reds) are divided into three small areas on two of the appellation's best soil types, notably the famous third terrace. One is clay-limestone and produces wines of great finesse. The other is a soil of pebbles mixed with reddish sand, which is conducive to more powerful wines.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine noted (guide 2024) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

About wine:

After 30 months in 500-liter barrels, this cuvée delivers a rich bouquet of jammy black fruits (blackberry, blackcurrant), mocha, and toast. A wood-fruit combination that also fills the palate with a full-bodied, fleshy, opulent, and voluminous texture. Character and potential.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 95/100

Rated estate (2025 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About wine:

Vines between 50 and 60 years old for this cuvée vinified in new 500L open barrels with floral aromas, a deep, sensual and dense palate, and a mouthfeel that reveals both limestone and clay on a dynamic that is enhanced by the absence of sulfur before bottling.

About the estate:

For more than fifteen years, the Verhaeghe brothers, Pascal in charge of winemaking and Jean-Marc in charge of the vineyard, and now Jules, Pascal's son, have made Le Cèdre the benchmark for the appellation. It must be said that they benefit from an exceptional terroir: on the one hand, a particularly stony and constantly shifting cone of limestone scree, the famous "tran," which produces fine, elegant wines; on the other hand, a soil of pebbles on ferruginous sand, which gives the wines more power. Made from ideally ripe and selected grapes, the cuvées, which are always very colorful, achieve a rare level of quality and consistency thanks to refined tannins and velvety textures. The Extra-Libre cuvées offer the entire range without sulfur.

Rated estate (2025 guide) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Wine Enthusiast)

About wine:

Château du Cèdre's finest wine is made from pure Malbec. It is a massive, dense wine with powerful tannins and black fruit aromas, which manages to balance the acidity. This impressive wine needs time. Drink from 2026. Organic.

James Suckling

James Suckling

Wine rated (2024 guide) 95/100

About wine:

On the nose, lots of sweet blue plums, blueberries, wet stones, stemmy herbs, and delicate spices. Full-bodied with fine tannins. Ample, expansive but concentrated on the finish. Intelligently structured with a good amount of fresh, chalky tannins, it shows balance, brightness, and energy. The finish is savory and persistent, but without heaviness. Made from organically grown grapes. Drink now or hold.
