“A beautiful deep color with purplish highlights. An inviting nose with subtle toasted notes, spice, blackcurrant, plum, and a woody undertone. A supple attack; structured, dense, and full-bodied on the palate, though somewhat reserved, with vegetal notes that are still somewhat disjointed—a well-structured wine that should be allowed to age gently.” (Le Guide des Vins 2017 - Gilbert & Gaillard)

Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2018 guide) 14,5/20 (Good wine)
Rated estate (2027 guide): 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable vintage, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the wine:
A powerful, concentrated, rich, and ripe Montravel—one to age for a few years; it promises to be a fine bottle.
About the estate:
Sylvie and Jean-François Deffarge have proudly represented Montravel at this family-owned estate since 1749, which spans 38 hectares on the hillsides and the Vélines plateau. They have recently handed the reins over to their sons, Quentin and Benjamin, while remaining on hand to support them. The extensive lineup offers wines suitable for every occasion. The estate obtained organic certification in 2022.
Guide Hachette des vins
Rated Estate: Award-Winning Wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)
About the estate:
A very old family estate (1749) located on the hills above Montravel, this vast property is now one of the leading names in the Bergerac region, thanks to the work carried out since 1990 (when the estate left the cooperative) by Jean-François Deffarge, a “self-taught oenologist,” who is now handing the reins over to his sons Benjamin and Quentin. The vineyard (50 ha) spans two distinct terroirs: clay-limestone slopes and a high plateau of boulbène soil. Currently in the process of converting to organic farming.
