“The 2017 Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Auslese ** (Green Capsule) is an astonishing wine that displays a luminous, fairly pale lemon color and opens with a superbly precise, refined, and beautifully reductive bouquet of perfectly ripe and healthy Riesling berries intertwined with very delicate aromas of crushed slate. It is remarkable for its clarity, luminosity, and that crisp Mosel character! On the palate, it is a very elegant, spicy, and well-structured Badstube Auslese that beautifully combines ripeness, concentration, and finesse. It is remarkable for its clarity, luminosity, and that crisp, Mosel character! On the palate, it is a very elegant, spicy, and well-structured Badstube Auslese that beautifully combines ripeness, concentration, and finesse. The wine is both rich and delicate, well-structured yet stimulatingly racy, crystalline, and beautifully refined, with a long, crisp finish. Cellar it for a decade or two. Tasted three times in March and April 2019.
