"He beat the best players without even seeing them!"

“The 2016 Reignac is an absolute delight. Flavors of raspberry jam, mocha, plum, and spices are enhanced by expressive floral notes in this medium-bodied Merlot-based red, which is enjoyable even in its youth. Reignac’s newer, fresher style results in a wine with tremendous depth and energy. There’s so much to love here, including the price.” (Vinous A. Galloni). Don’t get hung up on its appellation— this Bordeaux beat out the biggest names in a blind tasting. Watch the video!

Wine rated 15.5/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2023 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the wine:

A superb, exuberant, and complex nose, with very ripe fruit, rose, and spices; on the palate, it is magnificent, dense, deep, and well-structured, aromatic, with plenty of freshness and energy.

About the estate:

Yves and Stéphanie Vatelot are part of a generation of business leaders who became winemakers some twenty years ago. They have significantly enhanced the potential of this estate, both in the vineyard and in the winery. With the guidance of Michel Rolland, they produce red and white wines of exemplary quality and consistency, which rank them among the appellation’s leading producers.

Wine rated 89–91/100 (Excellent wine)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

Yves Vatelot's 2016 Reignac has an intense nose of blackberry and heather, classic in style and well-defined. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with fine, crisp, and concentrated tannins, leading to a very elegant, almost understated finish with hints of tobacco. It is well worth seeking out.

Wine rated 17.5/20 (Great wine)

Rated Estate (2023 Guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the wine:

A selection of excellent wines at reasonable prices. This wine has gained in finesse, standing out for its fresh character while maintaining a high level of concentration, though with a less pronounced emphasis on ripeness. It suits it perfectly!

About the estate:

This year, Yves and Stéphanie Vatelot celebrated their 30th anniversary at the helm of Reignac. From the very beginning, the couple has gone all out to position their superior Bordeaux wines at the highest level, following the advice of Michel Roland. With the arrival of director Nicolas Lesaint in 2009, cultivation methods have evolved to align more closely with organic practices. This work is beginning to show in the wines, despite aging that is still somewhat intrusive. Extractions are more precise thanks to six small truncated-cone vats designed to match the specific characteristics of each vineyard plot.

A stunning wine for this modest appellation, bursting with dark fruit, intense concentration, and plenty of fairly supple tannins. The long, polished finish is also impressive. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. Drink now or cellar.

A classic Bordeaux, but well-made. It offers good length and refined tannins.

A very fine wine to drink... Don't expect it to be a grand cru... A bit pricey, though...

Dark color. Powerful but lacking in elegance. As someone who usually enjoys good and very good Burgundies, I find the tannins here too pronounced and the wine lacking in finesse. Sorry, but I don’t share the general opinion.

It’s nice and lively, but in my opinion it needs to age in the bottle! Try it again in six months and a year.

An amazing wine—it's definitely worth a try. It has a long finish and a well-balanced blend. In a blind tasting, it might even surprise some grand cru wines.
