“Already complex, the 2008 displays notes of clay soil alongside blackcurrant cream, white chocolate, and cedar. Deep, medium-bodied to full-bodied, and pure, with supple tannins, it will be a pleasure to drink over the next 7 to 8 years. ” (Wine Advocate 2011 - Robert Parker). A red wine that is flavorful, full-bodied, and very enveloping on the palate, with velvety tannins...

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2023 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)
About the estate:
Yves and Stéphanie Vatelot are part of a generation of business leaders who became winemakers some twenty years ago. They have significantly enhanced the potential of this estate, both in the vineyard and in the cellars. With the guidance of Michel Rolland, they produce red and white wines of exemplary quality and consistency, which rank them among the appellation’s leading producers.
Guide Hachette des vins
Wine noted (guide 2011) 2* Favorite (Remarkable wine)
About the wine:
Is this château starting to get used to the Guide’s “Coup de Cœur” awards? This is, in fact, the fourth such award the estate has received since its founding in 1990, and the third for this flagship cuvée. All the more reason, then, to visit the 16th-century mansion, its main courtyard, and its greenhouse designed by Gustave Eiffel. But let’s talk about the wine: beneath its deep purple hue, aromas of overripe black fruits emerge, nuanced by a slight roasted note. Its density, power, length, and tight tannins… everything points to definite aging potential. We’ll therefore try to let this fine bottle age in the cellar for three years before savoring it with a grilled rib of beef.

Wine rated (2012 guide) 16,5/20 (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2023 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)
About the wine:
The 2008 vintage has found its balance and has become more refined, with elegant tannins and a more sophisticated texture
About the estate:
This year, Yves and Stéphanie Vatelot celebrated their 30th anniversary at the helm of Reignac. From the very beginning, the couple has gone all out to position their Bordeaux Supérieurs at the highest level, following the advice of Michel Roland. With the arrival of director Nicolas Lesaint in 2009, viticultural practices have evolved to align more closely with organic methods. This work is beginning to show in the wines, despite aging that is still somewhat intrusive. Extractions are more precise thanks to six small truncated-cone vats designed to match the specific characteristics of each vineyard plot.

2008 wasn't a great vintage, and neither was this wine.

A wonderful wine, an extraordinary surprise. This wine is refined, powerful, and full of delicacy; the vanilla is there… I wonder how the 2009 and 2010 vintages will turn out. An explosion of flavors on the palate.
