Champagne Philipponnat
This distinguished and time-honored Champagne house, based in Mareuil-sur-Ay, has carried on the family tradition for five centuries on vineyards consisting mainly of Premier and Grand Cru plots. The famous Clos des Goisses vineyard of the Philipponnat house is one of the largest, covering 5.5 hectares on a hillside with an ideal terroir of pure chalk facing due south.
The elegant and distinguished Philipponnat style stems from meticulous and careful work throughout the winemaking process: exclusive use of the first pressings, fermentation and aging in barrels, bottle aging for 3 to 11 years, and the use of old reserve wines (Solera system) in the blends. The distinctive feature of Philipponnat Champagne: the significant proportion of Pinot Noir, which brings power, intensity, structure, and vinosity to the House’s style.
