Champagne Philipponnat
This fine, time-honored Champagne house, based in Mareuil-sur-Ay, has carried on the family tradition for five centuries on a vineyard consisting mainly of Premier Cru and Grand Cru plots. The famous Clos des Goisses, owned by Philipponnat, is one of the largest hillside vineyards, spanning 5.5 hectares on an ideal terroir of pure chalk with a south-facing exposure.
The elegant and distinguished Philipponnat style stems from meticulous and careful work throughout the winemaking process, from production to aging: exclusive use of the first pressings, fermentation and aging in barrels, bottle aging for 3 to 11 years, and the use of old reserve wines (Solera system) in the blends. What sets Philipponnat Champagnes apart is the significant proportion of Pinot Noir, which lends power, intensity, structure, and vinous character to the House’s style.
