great wine

"Viña Errázuriz's flagship cuvée, named in honor of the founder and a true legacy of his love for the great wines of Bordeaux and the Aconragua Valley!"

"This wine is deep and complex, with spices enhancing it on the nose, as well as blackberries, blueberries, ink, cassis, black olives, sweet tobacco leaves and notes of cocoa powder and wet earth. Pleasantly chewy, powdery and broad, with an elegant yet racy mid-palate and tight structure. 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Malbec, 9% Carménère and 4% Petit Verdot. Very long and creamy, with a hint of cedar on the finish. Lots of pleasure here! Drink from 2025. (James Suckling 2022) - Delivery in wooden cases possible for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on country and shipping method selected).

About the wine:

Continuing the trend seen over the past five years or so, Don Maximiano 2020 is a fine, medium-bodied red that emphasizes balance and finesse. Marrying Cabernet Sauvignon with 20% Malbec, 9% Carmenère and 4% Petit Verdot, it is leafy, minty, herbaceous and refreshing, with notes of blackcurrant and bramble and a very subtle woody integration. 2024-2035

Wine rated (2023 guide) 97/100

About the wine:

As usual, this Don Maximiano is based on Cabernet Sauvignon (67% of the blend), most of which comes from the Max V vineyard, planted in 1993 on an alluvial terrace near the Aconcagua River, a cooler breezy zone than the valley interior. We've seen significant changes in the style of this wine since 2016. The Cabernet base from a cooler zone is evident here, especially when it comes to a year that was very hot throughout Chile. Ripe red fruit and sweetness are there, but they're not the protagonists. What deserves all the applause is the tension between the tannins and the acidity, which is the key to this wine's nervousness and liveliness. The rest of the blend is made up of 20% Malbec, 9% Carménère and 4% Petit Verdot.
