"Errazuriz is one of the first Chilean wineries to experiment with Syrah. Cumbre—which means 'summit' in the Mapuche language—comes from the upper reaches of the valley and is available in very limited quantities!"
“Errázuriz was one of the first wineries in Chile to experiment with Syrah. That was in the early 1990s, and it has come a long way since then. The first vintage of La Cumbre, its most ambitious Syrah, was produced in 2001. It has also evolved significantly in recent years, shifting from fuller-bodied, riper styles to vintages like this one, which—despite coming from a very hot year—displays brilliantly fresh red fruit; the earlier harvests chosen by the winery team over the past five years have played a major role in this. This has resulted in greater liveliness across the entire range of wines in general, and this one in particular also features firmer tannins that help support the wine on the palate and give it structure in addition to its refreshing and flavorful fruit.” (Descorchados - Patricio Tapia 2022)

Robert Parker - Wine Advocate
Rated wine (2023 guide) 93+/100 (Outstanding wine)
About the wine:
La Cumbre 2019 was produced with 96% Syrah and 4% Viognier, co-fermenting the two grape varieties in the Côte-Rôtie style. It features varietal notes of meat, blackcurrant, and a hint of smokiness, as well as floral notes. The 2019 growing season was only moderately warm, and the wine reached 14% alcohol. They used larger oak casks for aging, which, in my opinion, is a good choice for this grape variety. The wine is juicy, fresh, and beautifully textured. Good varietal character. 2022–2029

About the wine:
“Our best Syrah in terms of varietal character”—that’s how Francisco Baettig describes this Syrah, and I agree with him. Full-bodied and herbaceous, with notes of garrigue spices and black olives, fine tannins, and a bit more aroma and complexity thanks to the 4% Viognier. 2023–2030
