Nicolas Mariotti-Bindi
Every achievement begins with a dream. The history of this estate is living proof of that. Originally destined for a career as a lawyer, Nicolas Mariotti Bindi After studying law in Paris, he realized that wasn’t the life for him. He wanted to be a winemaker. His plan was then to return to Corsica to pursue his passion for winemaking. After training first on the mainland in Beaujolais, then on his own land at the Leccia estate, Nicolas produced his first vintage in 2007. With passion and, above all, perseverance, the Nicolas Mariotti-Bindi Estate moved to in 2015 Cantina di Torra in Oletta. Cultivated using organic farming methods, the 15-hectare estate is managed in small plots to produce distinctive wines that remain true to their terroir. Winemaking is natural; only SO₂ is used in limited quantities, which are listed on the label.
The vineyards are managed with the utmost respect for the land; tilling is kept to a minimum to allow the soil to regenerate during the winter and prevent any form of erosion. The harvest is done by hand, and the grapes are placed in 500-liter bins to prevent them from being crushed.
Four terroirs define the vineyards ofthe Nicolas Mariotti-Bindi estate.
Mursuglia: an east-facing clay-limestone terroir comprising 1 ha of Niellucciu and 1 ha of Vermentinu from massal selections planted at high density (7,600 vines per hectare). The vines were planted in 2009.
Porcellese: With soil composed of ancient alluvial deposits and rounded pebbles, this 3.5-hectare plot was planted with Niellucciu in 1966. Yields are low, and the wines produced from these old vines are concentrated.
Lumiu: South-facing clay-limestone soil, comprising 2 hectares of Vermentinu from clonal selections planted at high density (7,600 vines per hectare).
Carcu: a collection of 7.5-hectare plots on clay-limestone hillsides facing northeast, in the process of converting to organic farming since 2016.
Full-bodied and velvety, and truly off the beaten path, Nicolas Mariotti-Bindi’s wines are straightforward and distinctive, reflecting the integrity and convictions of this highly talented winemaker.
