Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2020 guide) 1*Star (A high-quality, recommendable wine that lives up to expectations for its appellation(s))
About the estate:
This talented winemaker has generated a great deal of enthusiasm among wine lovers, but we don’t always understand why when tasting his wines. Many seem too heavy or lack purity and finesse despite their substantial body. Every now and then, a dazzling wine restores our confidence—most often a white.

Wine rated (2021 guide) 92/100 (2019 vintage)
Rated estate (2021 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the estate:
After working as a vineyard manager at the Leccia estate, Nicolas Mariotti Bindi took over an old, abandoned winery on the road to Oletta in 2015. He worked tirelessly to restore this facility, which allows him to better manage his production and work using gravity. The vineyard is certified organic, and the soils are cultivated according to best practices. Wine production takes place in stainless steel tanks and 16-hectoliter cement eggs. These authentic wines, always full-bodied and velvety, offer a great frankness of flavors and are delicious in their youth, but also have the potential to age well. Their high quality and unfailing consistency have earned the estate its second star this year.

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Published on February 12, 2022
I was expecting a wine typical of Nielluciu—full of character, full-bodied… but I was sorely mistaken! In fact, the Cantina is a simple, very “natural” wine, lacking any real tannic structure or body. It exhibits a pronounced intensity of black berries enhanced by acidity, with notes of spices and olives, as well as a slight earthy quality. The finish is refreshing, tinged with a hint of bitterness. To put it mildly, this wine—which is pleasant enough on its own but overpriced—failed to impress the guests gathered for a cocktail dinner featuring wood-fired pizzas topped with brousse cheese and figatelli, accompanied by plates of traditional Corsican charcuterie. Fortunately, some friends had a bottle of U. Murtone on hand, as well as some Clos Alivu—undoubtedly more authentic. Rating: 2.7.
