Wine rated (2026 guide) 90/100

Rated estate (2026 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the estate:

In organic farming, Xavier Weisskopf cultivates 9 hectares in Montlouis and 4 in the Touraine appellation. His vineyards are planted with old vines from mass selections, which contribute to the production of top-quality wines. The whites impress with their purity, in an appellation that is no shortage of talent. An elite winemaker, among the best in the region.

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2026 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

Originally from the Oise region, Xavier Weisskopf established his vineyard (17 hectares of organic land) in 2005. Nothing had set him on this path, but his studies in Chablis introduced him to the world of wine, leading him to the “Viti” in Beaune, then to Gigondas, and finally to the banks of the Loire.

Rated wine (2025 guide) 91/100 (Excellent wine)

About the wine:

With a subtle, understated bouquet of violets and wild blackberries intertwined with pepper and jasmine, the 2022 Touraine Cot Vieilles Vignes is a medium-bodied, dense, and juicy wine. It is rich and fresh despite a somewhat austere profile.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 90/100

Rated estate (2026 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

As usual, the Côt needs time to soften its initial sharpness and release its juicy body, punctuated by pronounced tannins. A red wine more suited to winter than spring.

About the estate:

Starting out with limited resources in a makeshift cellar in 2005, Clémence and Xavier Weisskopf have succeeded, through courage and tenacity, in building their own vineyard. For several years now, they have been among the leading producers in Montlouis-sur-Loire. The 17 hectares, spread between Montlouis and Touraine, are cultivated Organic. Touche Mitaine (flinty clay), Les Borderies (clay-limestone, 40-year-old vines), Le Grand Poirier (clay-sandy, 67-year-old vines)... A myriad of terroirs has been captured in the bottle, in whites that aim for aromatic nuance, delicacy, and the authentic expression of Chenin Blanc—whether dry or with residual sugar, depending on the character of the vintage. These are wines of great sincerity that delight the palate!

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Posted on May 21, 2025

Here is an intriguing 100% Malbec from the Loire Valley, carefully crafted and aged, showcasing the vintage’s lively and fresh structure and a dense, straightforward body, framed by tight, silky tannins, with subtly extracted fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry, and plum in particular), and subtle smoky notes. The wine is full-bodied, light, and a touch rustic for my taste, finishing quickly with a slightly chalky aftertaste. The price is a bit overrated. This young Touraine was enjoyed with a forest-style ribeye steak. Rating = 3.5.
