About the estate:

As an organic grower, Xavier Weisskopf cultivates 9 hectares in Montlouis and 4 in the Touraine appellation. His vineyards are planted with old vines from massal selections, which contribute to the production of top-quality wines. The whites impress with their purity, even within an appellation that is no stranger to talent. An elite winemaker, ranked among the best in the region.

About the estate:

A native of the Oise region, Xavier Weisskopf established his vineyard (17 hectares of organic vineyards) in 2005. Nothing seemed to point him toward this career, but his studies in Chablis introduced him to the world of wine, which led him to the “Viti” in Beaune, then to Gigondas, and finally to the banks of the Loire. One of the very best estates in Touraine.

About the estate:

The Le Rocher des Violettes estate was founded in 2005 by Xavier Weisskofp. It consists of plots of land that at the time belonged to several local farmers. Xavier Weisskofp worked in the Rhône Valley before moving to the Loire Valley. The Le Rocher des Violettes estate initially comprised 6 hectares of vineyards. The winemaker comes from a family of farmers. He discovered winemaking in Chablis at age 18 while studying agriculture and specialized in viticulture the following year. Fifty percent of the production is destined for high-end restaurants and wine shops, and just under 10 percent is sold to private customers. Since 2008, the Le Rocher des Violettes estate has been producing organic wine.

Here is an intriguing 100% Malbec from the Loire Valley, carefully crafted and aged, showcasing the vintage’s lively and fresh structure and a dense, straightforward body, framed by tight, silky tannins, with subtly extracted fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry, and plum, in particular), and subtle smoky notes. The wine is full-bodied, light, and a touch rustic for my taste, ending quickly with a slightly chalky finish. The price is a bit overrated. This young Touraine was paired with a forest-style entrecôte. Rating = 3.5.
