“The 2011 red Anjous are beautifully crafted, with lovely spicy oak notes in the Champs aux Loup.” (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2015 - RVF) - “A wine with aging potential that is still holding back. The aging process somewhat masks the otherwise refined texture, complemented by a palette of balsamic (coffee), tobacco, and black fruit flavors. An intense style to revisit in two years.” (Les Meilleurs Vins de France - Gault Millau)

Nose

It shines brightly on juicy fruit, underscored by subtle oak notes. The profile becomes more complex with notes of wild berries and spice contributed by the aging process. A hint of ginger, licorice, and balsamic notes round out the aromatic profile.

Palate

Full-bodied and firm, the wine is rich and concentrated, with tannins that are still pronounced but of noble quality. The palate shows promise and still needs time to mellow.

Rated estate (2019 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the wine:

The 2011 red Anjous are beautifully crafted, with a lovely spicy oakiness in the Champs aux Loup.

About the estate:

Roger-François Béguinot, who made his fortune in the baby food industry, and his wife fell in love with Château Soucherie in 2007. This 28-hectare estate is beautifully situated on a south-facing schist hillside between Beaulieu and Rochefort, within the Anjou, Savennières, Coteaux du Layon, and Chaume appellations.
