Rated wine (2025 guide) 1*Star (2023 vintage) (A very successful wine)

Rated Estate (2025 Guide) Award-Winning Wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

Gilles Bonnefoy built his estate from the ground up starting in 1997: he planted vineyards from 2001 to 2016 and built the winery in 2004. Today, the 10.5-hectare estate is farmed using biodynamic methods and is situated on the outskirts of two volcanoes: La Madone and Le Pigeonnier.

Rated Estate (2025 Guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or high-quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Les Vins de la Madone offer one of the most exciting experiences in the Côtes du Forez, a low-key appellation located between Saint-Étienne and Clermont-Ferrand, at the gateway to the Livradois-Forez Natural Park. Gilles Bonnefoy strives to capture the sparkling purity of the fruit, both in his Gamay reds and in his whites (IGP d’Urfé), which include a Roussanne and a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris. This vibrancy, drawn from granite and volcanic soils, is achieved through biodynamic vineyard management (certified in 2008), winemaking that partially uses whole clusters, and aging exclusively in tanks. The star is firmly in the sky.

An excellent choice for exploring a volcanic terroir and a lesser-known appellation and blend of grape varieties. Swirl the glass, take a whiff—and if you’re surrounded by purists, it’ll spark a lively discussion…before you know it, the bottle is empty. A wonderful moment of sharing over this wine.
