Urfé

TheUrfé vineyards are located in the Loire department, overlapping with those of Côte Roannaise and Côtes du Forez. Formerly known as Vin de Pays d'Urgé, it was awarded the IGP d'Urfé label in 2009. Current production is relatively confidential, at around 1,000 hectolitres. The appellation now enables local producers to diversify their production, without overstretching their products.

The terroir produces IGP d'Urfé red and rosé wines, mainly from Gamay, Pinot noir and Syrah grapes. IGP d'Urfé white wines are mainly made from Chardonnay, Aligoté, Pinot gris, Viognier, Gamay, Marsanne and Roussanne grapes.

Among the producers of the Urfé Protected Geographical Indication, the quality of the wines offered by Domaine des Pothiers is particularly noteworthy.
