Urfé
TheUrfé wine region is located in the Loire department, overlapping notably with the Côte Roannaise and Côtes du Forez regions. Formerly known as Vin de Pays d'Urgé, it has held the Urfé IGP designation since 2009. Current production is relatively small, at around 1,000 hectoliters. The appellation now allows local producers to diversify their production without compromising the quality of their wines.
The terroir produces red and rosé IGP d'Urfé wines made primarily from Gamay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah grape varieties. The white IGP d'Urfé wine is primarily made from Chardonnay, Aligoté, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Gamay, Marsanne, and Roussanne grapes.
Among the producers of the Urfé Protected Geographical Indication, the quality of the wines offered by Domaine des Pothiers is particularly noteworthy.
