Les Vins de la Madone
In this young Côtes du Forez appellation, which was established in 2000, Gilles Bonnefoy founded the winery Les Vins de la Madone, in 1997, based in Champdieu, south of the Loire Valley. He began by leasing a few plots of old vines, then acquired 4 hectares of fallow land across various terroirs. As early as 2001, he quickly shifted toward organic viticulture. Wishing to take his natural and environmentally friendly approach even further, he began exploring biodynamics in 2004, which led to Demeter certification in 2009, with the implementation of green manure crops, plant decoctions, and biodynamic preparations.
Today, the Les Vins de la Madone estate spans 11 hectares of vineyards, mostly located around the Madone volcano, on volcanic and clay-granite soils. Each plot is vinified separately. The fairly eclectic lineup includes two white wines with the Urfé IGP designation, six red wines showcasing different terroirs, one rosé, and two unique sparkling wines. A delightful discovery, featuring wines with distinct character and new expressions of Gamay that will appeal to all Gamay enthusiasts.
