Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (guide 2021) 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)

About the domain :

Hidden away at the foot of the Alpilles mountains, in a magical, spectacular setting worthy of a James Bond film, this 58-hectare estate now belongs to the Charmolüe family, former owners of Château Montrose, Cru Classé de Saint-Estèphe. Cultivated as close as possible to nature, the vineyard finds its rhythm in biodynamics, the progress of the wines is clearly perceptible and their purity undeniable. Since 2018, a brand-new winery has complemented the spectacular historic winery, enabling the wines to continue to progress.

Guide Hachette des vins

Domaine noté (guide 2020) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the domain :

Former owners of Ch. Montrose, a Saint-Estèphe cru classé, Anne-Marie and Jean-Louis Charmolüe acquired this vast estate (250 ha) with its ancient past in 2006, located in the heart of the Alpilles Regional Nature Park in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. The vineyard covers 58 ha, farmed biodynamically since 1988, and the wines are matured in a monumental cellar, carved out of the rock and designed like a Gothic cathedral.

Gault & Millau Wine Guide

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Estate rated 3*Stars (very good production)

About the domain :

Right in the heart of the Alpilles mountains, this small 60-hectare estate is home to a number of Mediterranean red (syrah, grenache, cinsault...) and white (rolle...) grape varieties, as well as non-Mediterranean varieties (cabernet-sauvignon), all grown biodynamically. The grapes are vinified in a rather original location: an underground cathedral. The estate, acquired in 2006 by Jean-Louis Charmolüe (Château Montrose, Saint-Estèphe), benefits from the advice of Bordeaux oenologist Denis Dubourdieu.
