"A shooting star to catch"

“Sourced from the highest-altitude vineyards, Arcane l’Étoile is another elegant cuvée from Xavier, focused on a finesse that is both rich and fresh. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, along with a small amount of Viognier from the 2015, 2016, and 2017 vintages. There is a profound depth to its texture and balance. Notes of black raspberries, red currants, dried flowers, lavender, and pepper make up this beautiful, full-bodied, and elegant wine, which could well become one of Beaumes-de-Venise’s greatest red wines to come.” (Jeb Dunnuck)

About the wine:

Aromas of blackberries, spiced cherries, dried citrus, and sweet tobacco. There are also hints of wild herbs and bark. This is a medium-bodied to full-bodied wine with velvety tannins and a succulent, flavorful finish. Enjoy now or cell it.

Review and comment by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 12/18/2024

So well-balanced in terms of freshness, body, and intensity that you don’t even notice its 15° alcohol content. The tannic structure is rich with notes of macerated black fruits, along with a smoky hint. The texture is pleasing, with a well-rounded character. A hint of bitterness is masked by the silky smoothness of the finish. It pairs exceptionally well with a melt-in-your-mouth roast wild boar, served with a Byrrh/clementine/dark chocolate sauce and accompanied by creamy polenta. Rating = 4.

Once again, Xavier Vignon has produced a wine of exceptional quality; it comes very close to perfection for a Beaume de Venise, with a dense texture and a perfect finish.

I was very disappointed with this wine for Christmas Eve—even after letting it breathe, it was just average. Same goes for a second bottle on New Year's Day. I love Xavier Vignon wines, but this one has me wondering!
