Xavier Vignon - Beaumes-de-Venise Arcane L'Étoile
95/100
Jeb Dunnuck
"A shooting star to catch"
"Sourced from the highest-altitude vineyards, Arcane l'Étoile is another elegant cuvée from Xavier, focused on a style that is both rich and fresh. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, along with a small amount of Viognier from the 2015, 2016, and 2017 vintages. There is a profound depth to its texture and balance. Notes of black raspberries, redcurrants, dried flowers, lavender, and pepper make up this beautiful, full-bodied, and elegant wine, which could well become one of the greatest red wines to come out of Beaumes-de-Venise.” (Jeb Dunnuck)

So well-balanced in terms of freshness, body, and intensity that you wouldn’t guess it’s 15% ABV. The tannic structure is rich with notes of macerated black fruit, with a smoky undertone. The texture is pleasing, with a well-rounded character. A hint of bitterness is swallowed up by the silky finish. Highly recommended with a melt-in-your-mouth roast wild boar, served with a Byrrh/clementine/dark chocolate sauce and creamy polenta. Rating = 4.

Once again, Xavier Vignon has produced a wine of exceptional quality; it comes very close to perfection for a Beaume de Venise, with a dense texture and a perfectly long finish

I was really disappointed with the wine for Christmas Eve—even after letting it breathe, it was just average. Same story with a second bottle on New Year's Day. I usually love Xavier Vignon wines, but this time I'm starting to have my doubts!
