“The appellation’s flagship wine”

“I must admit that I approached the 2023 Côte-Rôtie Mon Village without any particular expectations, but it turned out to be one of the most memorable surprises of the tasting. Blooming in the glass with aromas of mocha, freshly ground coffee, black berries, and spices, subtly underscored by oak, it offers a medium- to full-bodied palate that is complex and finely textured. A fleshy, fruity core is supported by velvety tannins, leading to a fragrant, lively finish with notes of licorice, violet, and black berries. Initially reserved, it gains depth and definition with aeration, concluding on a note that is both flamboyant and precise. Bravo!” (Wine Advocate 2026)

Rated estate (2023 guide): 4* Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the estate:

Stéphane Ogier’s ambition is evident not only in the quality of his wines but also in his new winery. It is a magnificent facility for vinifying his Côte-Rôtie and Seyssuel terroirs on a plot-by-plot basis. Barrel aging is masterfully executed through extended aging periods. A reliable source of excellent Syrahs from the northern Rhône, prized by top sommeliers and wine merchants worldwide.

Rated estate (2024 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the estate:

Since 2014, Stéphane Ogier has been making wine in an ultra-modern winery in Ampuis, where he gives free rein to his creative talent. Of the 18 hectares cultivated by this estate, 3.5 hectares are located on beautiful plots in Côte-Rôtie. Stéphane joined his father Michel in 1997 after studying oenology in Beaune, where he developed a taste for elegance and finesse. The wines are made from partially destemmed grapes (50% whole-cluster in the Lancement cuvée). The precision of recent vintages, the rigorous selection of single-vineyard cuvées, and the style the wines now exhibit place the estate among the elite, with a third star now within reach.

About the wine:

An entry-level classic, the 2023 Côte Rôtie Mon Village boasts a deep, intense color and an exceptional bouquet of red and black fruits, spices, flowers, and leather notes. Medium-bodied to full-bodied, round, and harmonious, it exhibits the suppleness and charm typical of this vintage. It’s impossible to resist today, but given its overall balance, I see no reason why it couldn’t age for 15 years.
