"A Surprising Gigondas"

“Here, we’re undoubtedly in the garrigue, with blackberries and raspberries and, as the name of the cuvée suggests, the freshness of north-facing vines.” (Le Monde - May 24, 2019) The challenge for the great winemakers of the south is not to produce ripe grapes, but to balance the richness of their berries with a refreshing coolness. This has been achieved—and achieved well—here with this Gigondas from north-facing plots. Once looked down upon, these vineyards now showcase their strengths. Cooled by the dry, cold mistral, they are protected from disease and allow for slow ripening, resulting in aromas of great clarity. The perfect companion for all your meals!

About the estate:

François Dauvergne and Jean-François Ranvier are part of a new generation of young wine merchants in the Rhône Valley. Deeply involved in the production of their wines, they work closely with their winemaker friends throughout the year to preserve the unique character of each terroir. Their wines are structured without being excessive, with perfectly defined aromas. The duo continues to evolve, and their portfolio stretches from Hermitage in the north to the Luberon in the south, including Côte-Rôtie, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and Costières-de-Nîmes—and now even extends to partnerships as far as Roussillon! Recently, their venture has expanded to the Bordeaux region.

About the estate:

Founded in 2004 by François Dauvergne and Jean-François Ranvier—wine professionals who decided to produce their own wines after working for others—this wine merchant has been establishing itself year after year through high-quality wines made from single-vineyard selections. In 2013, the two partners took over the Dom. des Muretins estate (Tavel and Lirac) and, in 2014, developed a range of Bordeaux wines in collaboration with Patrice Hateau.
