"The Great White Vintage"

“A blend of 60% Viognier and 40% Grenache Blanc, this richly textured white balances the opulence of oak-aged Viognier with the peachy freshness of Grenache Blanc. Hints of vanilla and smoke are prominent on the nose but integrate perfectly on the palate. The finish is subtle and elegant. ” (Wine Enthusiast 2020)

Wine rated (2020 guide) 15/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide): 3*Stars (High-quality production that serves as a benchmark in its sector)

About the wine:

Still showcasing fermented aromas, it already reveals a wide array of floral and fruity notes and finishes with a hint of spice and anise. Don't miss it.

About the estate:

In the historic region of Tavel, the Maby family produces wines of consistent quality—always authentic, pleasant, and full-bodied. Led by the dynamic Richard Maby, the estate continues to evolve, with the wines gaining in precision each year. The vineyards are located in the municipalities of Tavel, the Lirac plateau, and the neighboring Côtes du Rhône. Reasonable prices and the consistent quality of the wines make this estate a safe bet on today’s market—across all three wine categories.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

This winery, known for its consistently high-quality wines—particularly its Lirac in all three varieties and its Tavel—was founded in 1950 by Armand Maby. In 2005, his grandson Richard took over the vineyard, which spans 53 hectares located primarily on the rounded pebbles of the Vallongue plateau; the vines are cultivated “naturally” and have been in the process of converting to organic farming since 2019. Since 2011, the eminent Rhône oenologist Philippe Cambie has served as the estate’s consultant.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 90/100 (Excellent wine)

About the wine:

Barrel-fermented and aged, Maby’s 2018 Lirac Blanc Casta Diva is composed of roughly two-thirds Viognier and one-third Grenache. Notes of apricot and white pepper dominate the nose, while the fairly rich palate is full-bodied and silky, revealing a hint of astringency on the finish.

Wine rated (2020 guide) 92/100

About the wine:

A blend of 60% Viognier and 40% Grenache Blanc, this richly textured white wine balances the opulence of the oak-aged Viognier with the peachy freshness of the Grenache Blanc. Hints of vanilla and smoke are prominent on the nose but integrate perfectly on the palate. The finish is subtle and elegant. It is at its peak now but should continue to be enjoyable through 2024.

Gilbert & Gaillard

Gilbert & Gaillard

Wine rated 93/100

About the wine:

A deep, vibrant gold color. A refined nose with toasty, vanilla-like oak notes against a backdrop of almond, white flowers, and mountain herbs. Firm flavors stemming from a dense body, a rich, satisfying mouthfeel, and a smooth, salty finish—a perfectly matured wine. Superb.
