“Fresh and well-structured, this wine reveals a palette of fruits and spices on the finish. The tannins are velvety smooth, and the shimmering texture charms the palate. Superb!” (The Bettane & Desseauve Guide to French Wines 2017)

Wine rated (2017 guide) 15/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2024 guide) 4*Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the estate:

The estate produces highly expressive wines from the finest vineyards of Vaucluse and Gard. Every effort is made with deep respect for the terroirs, driven by a commitment to crafting wines that live up to their full potential. Madeleine Delorme, alongside her daughter Ambre, continues to work with great care and determination, upholding the spirit of excellence that defines both the estate and this winemaking family. A superb range of salty, full-bodied whites and deep, delicate reds, animated by a refreshing tension and a perfectly balanced structure. The estate is evolving its style toward increasingly refined and precise wines. The fourth star is fast approaching.

Wine rated (2017 guide) Mentioned (Successful wine)

Rated estate (2024 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

A classic wine from the appellation, made from Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Grenache, with one-third aged in oak barrels. It has a lovely deep purple color and a rich bouquet of black fruits and garrigue. On the palate, it is long, intense, and concentrated, with a pleasant touch of acidity.

About the estate:

Founded in 1986 by Francis Delorme and his son Christophe, the 58-hectare estate (certified organic and biodynamic) is spread across 38 plots and eight municipalities. Following Christophe’s untimely death in 2015, his wife Madeleine and their daughter Ambre took over the reins of the estate. Advocates of low yields, the Delormes produce vintages with disconcerting ease, whether in Tavel—their original stronghold—Lirac, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, or “simple” Côtes-du-Rhône. A must-try.

First off, a truly beautiful presentation. As for the wine itself, it’s rich and full-bodied, with silky, concentrated tannins, tremendous depth, and a very lingering finish marked by peppery notes and dominated by black fruit. Compared to a superb Lafond Roc-Epine—which is very much marked by red fruit and which also blew me away with its RQP—honestly, I’m torn… Tasted with a Fleur d’Aubrac ribeye from La Canourgue on the barbecue this weekend! Nothing to say, pure bliss.
