“The emblematic Tavel of the area”

“Hand-picked grapes, aged for 10 months in vats: this Reine des Bois doesn't do things by halves and holds its own. Elegant in its raspberry-hued color, it reveals little touches of carnation, blackcurrant wood, and brown butter. Lively on the attack, pleasantly fruity (nectarine), the middle of the palate offers comfortable volume, and the energetic finish makes you want to sit down at the table. Perfect with an octopus salad or a squid ink paella.” (Le Guide Hachette 2026)

Domaine rated (guide 2024) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)

About the domain :

The domaine offers expressive wines from the finest crus of the Vaucluse and Gard regions. Everything is done with the utmost respect for the terroirs, with the determination to produce wines worthy of their potential. Madeleine Delorme, accompanied by her daughter Ambre, carry on with great care and determination in the spirit of excellence that is the hallmark of the domaine and this winegrowing family. A superb range of saline, fleshy whites and deep, delicate reds, driven by thirst-quenching tension and balance. The domaine's style is increasingly racy and precise. The fourth star is fast approaching.

About the wine:

Hand-picked grapes, aged for 10 months in vats: this Reine des Bois doesn't do things by halves and holds its own. Elegant in its raspberry-hued color, it reveals hints of carnation, blackcurrant wood, and brown butter. Lively on the attack, pleasantly fruity (nectarine), the mid-palate offers comfortable volume, and the energetic finish makes you want to sit down at the table. Perfect with octopus salad or squid ink paella.

About the domain :

Created in 1986 by Francis Delorme and his son Christophe, the 58-hectare estate (certified organic and biodynamic) is spread over 38 parcels and eight communes. Following Christophe's untimely death in 2015, his wife Madeleine and their daughter Ambre took over the reins of the estate. A firm believer in low yields, the Delorme family is equally at home with tavel, lirac, châteauneuf-du-pape and "simple" côtes-du-rhône. Not to be missed.

Wine rated ( 2025 guide) 93/100 (Great wine)

Domaine noté Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

The 2024 Tavel La Reine des Bois is a brilliant cuvée, with a more floral and minty profile than its sister, La Dame Rousse. Sourced from old vines planted in sandy soils and rolled pebbles on the Vallongue plateau, it exudes aromas of crushed strawberries, raspberries, grapefruit, cherries, and lilac. Full-bodied, ample, and concentrated, this wine is complex and enveloping on the palate, built around a fleshy core of ripe fruit and framed by a fine, delicate tannic structure. Chalky tension supports the long, concentrated finish, bringing freshness and precision. This is a serious, vinous rosé with good aging potential.

About the wine:

The smaller 2024 Domaine De La Mordoree Tavel Cuvee De La Reine Des Bois is a similar blend, but with an added touch of Syrah (which likely accounts for its slightly deeper color), made from 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% each of Cinsault and Clairette, aged in tank. It has a slightly deeper, darker nose of black cherries, red currants, crushed limestone, and white pepper. It is very reserved, with a mineral style, but it opens up in the air and develops many sweet nuances of wild strawberries as it breathes in the glass. It is medium-bodied and concentrated, with bright, integrated acidity and a salty, mineral finish. This is a very different style from classic Tavel, offering more concentration, freshness, and acidity, but not quite the same complexity and mouthfeel. In any case, these two brilliant Tavels are benchmark wines that set the standard for the appellation.
