"Fresh and well-structured, this wine reveals a palette of fruits and spices on the finish. The tannins are velvety smooth, and the shimmering texture charms the palate. Superb!" (The Bettane & Desseauve Guide to French Wines 2017)

Wine rated (2017 guide) 15/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2024 guide): 4*Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the estate:

The estate produces highly expressive wines from the finest vineyards of Vaucluse and Gard. Every effort is made with deep respect for the terroirs, driven by a commitment to producing wines that live up to their full potential. Madeleine Delorme, alongside her daughter Ambre, continues to work with great care and determination, upholding the spirit of excellence that defines both the estate and this winemaking family. A superb range of salty, full-bodied whites and deep, delicate reds, enlivened by a refreshing vibrancy and a perfectly balanced profile. The estate is evolving its style toward wines that are increasingly refined and precise. The fourth star is fast approaching.

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated wine (2017 guide) Mentioned (Successful wine)

Rated Estate (2024 Guide) Award-Winning Wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the wine:

A great classic of the appellation, made from Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Grenache, with one-third aged in oak barrels. A lovely purple color, a rich bouquet of black fruits and garrigue, and a long, intense, and concentrated palate, highlighted by a pleasant touch of acidity.

About the estate:

Founded in 1986 by Francis Delorme and his son Christophe, the 58-hectare estate (certified organic and biodynamic) is spread across 38 plots and eight municipalities. Following Christophe’s untimely death in 2015, his wife Madeleine and their daughter Ambre took over the reins of the estate. Advocates of low yields, the Delormes produce their vintages with disconcerting ease, whether in Tavel—their original stronghold—Lirac, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, or “simple” Côtes-du-Rhône. A must-try.

First off, a truly beautiful color. As for the taste, it’s rich and full-bodied with silky, concentrated tannins, tremendous volume, and a very lingering finish featuring peppery notes dominated by black fruit. Compared to a superb Lafond Roc-Epine—which is heavily marked by red fruit and also blew me away with its RQP—I’m honestly torn… Tasted with a Fleur d’Aubrac entrecôte from La Canourgue on the barbecue this weekend! Nothing to say—pure bliss.
